Weight Loss Diet – What Do You Feed Your Machine?

After seeing a Ferrari overtake me on the way to work the other day, I started to day-dream – ‘What would it be like to own a Ferrari?’ I was sitting in traffic so I had plenty of time to think about this and I must say, I really got into it

After I had been driving around in this Ferrari for a while, it came to me – ‘I need to fill it up’. With the ever pressing matter of raising fuel costs, I was stuck with a dilemma. Should I fill my beautiful Ferrari with cheap fuel, knowing that it won’t be good for it and it won’t perform to its best? Or do I fill my Ferrari with the premium fuel? It may cost more, but at least I can rest assured that my car will last longer, perform better and be generally better for it.

I know that some people may think that this is a wild and strange comparison, but after I had finished day dreaming, I realized that we should all feed our ‘machines’ with premium fuel. The body is beautiful machine and yet the majority of us abuse it. If you owned a beautiful Ferrari, would you abuse it, knowing that you may damage it to the point of no repair?

Food for thought, perhaps?

What should you feed the machine?

A basic rule that I live my life by is, ‘can i grow it?’ If you can’t grow whatever you are eating, you shouldn’t eat it. Just think we have evolved of millions of years to eat foods that the earth provides. It is these foods that the body works best on. Foods like:

  • Rice – great source of natural carbohydrates, not the processed type, that are full of sugar and additives.
  • Vegetables – these contain all the vitamins the body requires to perform day to day functions.
  • Fish – as we all know oily fish contains omega oils. These fats are crucial the body, unlike the saturated fat found in most modern processed foods.
  • Meat – lean white meat like chicken is a great source of protein. These proteins allow the body to build lean muscle and repair itself. White meat is better than red, due to the lower fat content, red meat is still a great food to eat and shouldn’t be neglected.
  • Nuts – great source of protein and fat. In modern cooking, people are neglecting nuts due to the high costs but you should try to include them wherever you can. Great as a healthy snack.

So next time you are shopping or preparing dinner, take a moment to think – what are you feeding YOUR machine?
