Diet, Exercise, and the Relationship Between Them

If you’re aiming to lose weight, you must take two factors into account: your diet, and your exercise regimen. Leaving everything aside, if you can control your diet, and exercise according to a set schedule and plan, you will lose weight, no matter what. While dieting or exercising alone can help you lose weight (or gain muscle, if you so desire), their effect is multiplied manifold if you combine the two. The average human burns about 2000-2500 calories a day. Speaking in strictly general terms, if you eat 500 calories less than you burn each day, within a week, you’ll burn away one pound of fat. This, of course, doesn’t take into account a ton of other factors such as your age, body make up, what you eat, when you eat it, etc. that can have huge ramifications on your weight loss aim. Therefore, if you eat 500 calories less each day AND exercise enough to burn an additional 500 calories, you’ll lose weight twice as fast, as per the above calculation. Combining an effective diet with a carefully programmed exercise regimen, therefore, can have a stunning effect on your weight. It is important to not go on a crash diet as doing so can be counter-productive, making you gain weight in the long run. Your chief aim should be losing weight while still keeping your muscle, or even increasing your muscle mass. Muscle is an active tissue and requires energy to maintain. The more muscle you have, the more fat you’ll burn just sitting around doing nothing. The right diet and exercise combination can be difficult to find. But once you do come across something that works for you, stick with it, and you’ll see results sooner or later.
