Will you be moving soon? Packing up a child’s bedroom to send them to college? Sending a laptop overseas to a soldier in the family? There are things you must know in regards to handling and moving sensible electronics. Moving is a chore no matter what the circumstances. Packing up a home or apartment requires lots of coordination, time, and the right supplies. When you get around to packing up your home office, take extra precautions with your computer, scanner, printer and modems. There’s a reason why all those widgets get shipped to your door enshrined in tight-fitting Styrofoam molds wrapped within heavy-duty cardboard. There are a lot of sensible parts to protect! When you pack up your computer, whether a laptop or PC, consider using that down time to likewise give it a good cleaning. Canned air with a nozzle may blow out dust and random debris amidst the keys and along the crevices, fans, speakers and intakes. Semi-moist antibacterial towelettes may remove any surface grime and clean off the germs which cumulate from handling and use. Next you’ll want to use numerous moving pads to cushion and protect your computer. Detach any cords and wrap them in rubber bands. Consider sliding a piece of paper underneath the rubber band with a label indicating what the cord is for – this could make reassembly go much quicker for you. Much as you might wrap a Christmas present, cut a strip from the moving pads to wrap around the monitor. Use clear packing tape to hold it with resolute determination in place. Repeat with another strip or two of the moving pads for the bottom of the laptop or tower. Tape everything in place carefully. When you go to place the items inside a box for moving or shipping, use more of the moving pads to lay down a cushioned base and wrap the elements as you nestle the items together. Pack any remaining moving pads into open or empty space to keep away from rattling around. |
