Dustin Hazelett is on our list to see in the UFC. “Thanks to his knockout ability” you ask? Nope – he is genuinely kind of lanky. “Due to his record?” Negative – Dustin’s 12-6 (5-4 UFC record). “On account of his outstanding recent beard?” Maybe. Besides the beard… I like Dustin Hazelett because of his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Here’s a recap of Dustin as a fighter, and why I’m looking forward to witness his BJJ exhibit for the duration of UFC 124.

So who is this Dustin Hazelett guy?

First of all, and perhaps most significantly, there is Dustin’s aforesaid beard. It is remindful of a frenchman, and I’m sure it grants him a lot of sort of an edge in the fight. Maybe not.

A BJJ Black Belt, Dustin Hazelett is in the UFC’s Welterweight division. His UFC record is an frequent 5-4. To be fair, it must be brought up that he’s fought with a lot of severe injuries and one of those loses came by way of Josh Koscheck, who happens to be headlining the same UFC 124 card. Hazelett finished 4 of those 5 victories by submission. 9 of his overall 12 MMA wins are by submission, so there’s no guessing when it comes to Dustin’s fight strategy. He’s a submission technician, and the whole world realizes it – in particular Dustin himself – which puts him even higher on the list of my bestloved fighters.

The test of a grappler is to face a skilled wrestler, or a dude with great stand-up, who is peculiarly defending versus takedowns. (Brace yourself for a clique) “The best offense is a good defense”. And rather a few sneaky fighters have gotten through 3 rounds versus a grappler – prancing themselves to a win you might say.

Hazelett, who has the title of “Sherdog’s Submission of the Year” with an aweinspiring armbar versus Josh Burkman, has lost his former 2 fights. Hopefully he’s that much wiser going in the cage with his UFC 124 canadian opponent, Mark Bocek. Bocek may stand well and may grapple better. I doubt he’ll be leaning on his ground game, however.

Past the octagon, Dustin Hazelett is a respectable guy. He’s a terrific representative of BJJ in MMA. Dustin embodies Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he’s featuring it in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s octagon where the best fighters in the world meet up.

Because of Hazelett’s primary class attitude, his raw BJJ skill, and his all around illustration of BJJ in MMA, we wish him a successful bout on December 11 by way of whichever submission he picks.
