Heart-2-Heart Opens Main Street Location

It appeared mundane from the street — just a woman putting up new blinds. But like so often, there is more to what the eye can see. When Gayle Funk installed blinds in the front windows of the Heart-2-Heart Child Advocacy Center in the 700 block of North Main, it signaled a couple of things. “We are in,” said Kay Perkins, family advocate for the center. “We are absolutely here and doing interviewing here.” The Heart-2-Heart Child Advocacy Center’s move from city hall to a new location is now all but complete. And so is Funk’s fund-raiser to get them blinds for the windows. The owner of Living Rooms By Gayle celebrated the business’ fifth anniversary by giving 10 percent of sales, and donations from customers, to provide the center the blinds they needed. “These are solar blinds, meaning (Perkins) can see out but (those on the street) can’t see in,” Funk said. “That helps with her interview duties.” The blinds help keep things that happen in the center private, a real need as they work with abused children. “They have privacy for the work they do,” Funk said. “That was a big thing for us. This was also a way for people to give to the community.” Funk has her eyes set on another project for the center —providing new flooring. She has some things picked out, but the center is needing funds to complete the project. Also on tap is some electrical work and new light fixtures in some of the rooms. Despite what painting and small renovations remain, the center is open it a new location. “The place is really working out for us,” Perkins said.
